The four of us got started super late on the Truss. Ben had never been, so we were going to take some time going down, which didn't really happen. We blazed through most of the run, boat scouting as we went, and it went pretty well. The first few miles of the river have some pretty sweet class IV drops, some of which are getting pretty manky with the water levels dropping down. Most of the first drops are boat scoutable with a few that might be worth hopping out for. The action really starts with Meatball, a drop that is marked clearly when the river drops out of sight right and left around a boulder. At the lower water level, going left and boofing over the rock on the far left worked well. Directly below this is Bob's Falls, a two teir drop with a sticky hole at the bottom of the first one. Boof hard right or left. A little bit down from here is a large horizon line. This is Big Brother, a 20 foot drop with narrow margin for error. Too far off to the left and you land on rocks, too far right and you end in a cave. Portage left, scout left or right. Check the media: Ryan Scott cleans Big Brother
Below Big Brother is Little Brother. This is accessible by the ropes hanging off the cliff on the portage, or by running Big Brother. This 15 footer is run on the channel on the left side with a strong boof stroke. Down a few boulder gardens from here is Double Drop, a notoriously sticky drop with two good holes. The best line is right down the middle with a delayed boof off the top drop. I got kinda stuck in the top, but it all worked out okay going deep: tFrom here down its pretty mellow until the Zig Zag Canyons, about 2 miles downstream. These complex Class V rapids havae many moves and should be scouted but are unportageable. Pick your lines carefully. Downstream from the canyons are Tripple Drop, The Flume and BZ Falls. Good times on the Truss. All content © Jonathan Blum, 2004-2008 • Contact webmaster |
